Whad'Ya Know? For February 10, 2007
Hour 1 :00 - A live broadcast from Gaillard Auditorium in Charleston, South Carolina. Check out some pictures from the show! :01 - All The News That Isn't - Charleston-style. :08 - Good Morning Low Country with Harriet McLeod, columnist for the Charleston Post and Courier. Harriet started out as one of several columnists who wrote the column in turn, but hers were the best so now she's writing the column every day. It's more that you'll ever want to know about pluff mud. Pluff is the sound it makes when it sucks your car keys under or pulls your boot off. Charleston is a very polite city, if some honks at you while driving, you should stop and go and ask them if they need assistant. :28 - John, Jeff and Clyde get swinging with this jazz tune John wrote this week. :33 - In the audience Michael solves the mystery of the dimmed bridge lights. Then a little romantic advice for the sixth grade -- get them on the rebound just like grown-ups. So, is your name Two Porter? Oh, this is a two-parter question. Now it all makes sense and yes Michael likes the shrimp and grits. Watch out, it is going to come to blows over grits. :44 - Four Disclaimers and the Whad'Ya Know? Quiz Hour 2 :00 - Back for the second hour of this live broadcast from Charleston, South Carolina with the man who is slightly more than broad..... :01 - Whad'Ya Know? Quiz with Dwayne and John who bond over cold weather and corn. It's a rough go, but Dwayne knows what a chest on a chest on a chest is to win it in the end. :05 - Musical guest Shrimp City Slim play the blues, the Highway 17 Blues. :13 - It's time for shrimp and grits with Frank Lee from Maverick Southern Kitchens -- the grits may not be done but Michael can't wait any longer. Frank puts a lot of rhythm into his mise en place by making his own sausage for the shrimp and grits and the stock he makes for his creole dishes. It's loaded with nuance. :21 - Charleston may be known as the Holy City but it has a wicked side, too. Mark Jones wrote the book on Wicked Charleston where he documented the social history that wasn't quite as holy. Remember, this *is* a port town and where you have a port, you have sailors........enough said. :31 - The band really enjoyed the shrimp and grits, but they aren't too stuffed to swing a jazz groove. :37 - Meet a young gent who attends the school of inquiry. Let's stay away from the talk of grits this trip into the audience. :47 - Whad'Ya Know? Quiz with Meghann and Eliza who don't know about tattoos but they do know about piazzas. Will they be going to see To Kill A Mockingbird and how much will they spend on Valentine's Day?
