Whad'Ya Know? For June 3, 2006
Hour 1 :00 - A live broadcast from Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City. :02 - All The News That Isn’t from Iowa City. Iowa is the land of ethanol, keep an eye on the roads and you might end up behind the Wesson test vehicle. :17 - Guest interview with Steve Bloom and Peter Feldstein, the men behind the Oxford Project. Peter photographed the population of Oxford, Iowa in 1984, then re-photograph the same people 21 years later. Steve came in during the second phase of the project to listen to document the subjects’ stories. They learned a lot about euchre and casseroles, and venison in cream of mushroom soup. Click on over to find out more about the project. :35 - The Whad’Ya Know? Trio play a swinging jazz number. :40 - Michael heads into the audience to field an interesting “proposal,” then ponders the question of reaching into a public toilet bowl to retrieve some dropped change…..it has to be more than a quarter. Robert has a corn binder and he’s giving rides! :50 - Four Disclaimers and the Whad’Ya Know? Quiz with Brenda (who has the nerve to be from Ames) and Kim. Hour 2 :00 - Back for the second hour of this live broadcast from Iowa City with the man who never met a Kum and Go he didn’t like. :01 - Whad’Ya Know? Quiz with Brenda and Kim who know which is the girl part of the corn and which is the boy part. :08 - Guest musician Greg Brown along with that chatterbox Bo Ramsey. :22 - Guest interview with Dr. Russell Chiochan who knows about the pre-historic giant apes who roamed Iowa….or not. Dr. Chiochan and colleagues researched the giant beasts in northern China. He doesn’t have a full skeleton, but he has lots and lots of teeth from which we can extrapolate the size of these creatures – and we’re talking King Kong big! If you’re digging around Java you’ll find other homo-types, no Yettie though. Locally there is fossil evidence of a giant sloth, seriously! :38 - The Whad’Ya Know? Trio get in a quick riff as they play Michael into the audience to meet a Presbyter who wears madras and inside scoop on melons in Muscatine. Why don’t gentlemen remove the hats when they go in an establishment? Well, it is getting a little thin on top…. :48 - Whad’Ya Know? Quiz with Dean who doesn’t know how to ingratiate himself to an audience and Kathy who thinks of geodes and getting the lead out with the first Iowa settlers. If you bide your time at U of Iowa how much extra will you pay?
