It's the First Annual Marc Fisher Smeltdown -- from the Beltway to Smeltway Historical note: The Smeltdown is named for Marc Fisher, radio critic for the Washington Post who thinks Whad'Ya Know? is just Lawrence Welk music and farm reports.

Smeltdown Rules: The deadline for entry is 4/15/98 at 12 midnight CT. Why April 15th? It's Smelt and Taxes Day. The winner will be selected after review of all the entries by a panel of Michael Feldman. Winner will be chosen based on originality of their essay. The winner will be announced on the April 25, 1998 broadcast of WYK?. Whad'Ya Win? Brian, our gracious smelting host from Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, will wisk our Smeltdown grand prize winner away on the smelting trip of a lifetime, and maybe a trip to the casino (shower optional). Winner will receive travel to Wisconsin, an exciting evening of smelting with Brian, accomodations, dinner, $5 cash for gambling in the casino, and a treasure trove of smelt-related items. "If it sounds funny, smells bad -- do it," Jerry in West Virginia.
