First Annual Marc Fisher Smeltdown

Smeltdown Smelting season is coming up in Wisconsin -- something we're quite proud of. To honor this great Wisconsin tradition, we'd like to bring someone who has never smelt fish before to our neck of the woods and let them smelt.

It's the First Annual Marc Fisher Smeltdown -- from the Beltway to Smeltway

Historical note: The Smeltdown is named for Marc Fisher, radio critic for the Washington Post who thinks Whad'Ya Know? is just Lawrence Welk music and farm reports.

Listen inListen in to the show that started the smeltdown, and if that doesn't satisfy you, Listen incheck out the smeltdown update from the April 4th show. Still can't get enough? Well then Listen intune in to Michael reading Mr. Fisher's review.

Enter the Smeltdown:

To enter the Smeltdown, in 25 or 50 or 100 words or less (or however many it takes you to say something like that), finish the phrase:

"I always wanted to go smelting because..."

Smeltdown Rules:

The deadline for entry is 4/15/98 at 12 midnight CT. Why April 15th? It's Smelt and Taxes Day. The winner will be selected after review of all the entries by a panel of Michael Feldman. Winner will be chosen based on originality of their essay.

The winner will be announced on the April 25, 1998 broadcast of WYK?.

Whad'Ya Win?

Brian, our gracious smelting host from Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, will wisk our Smeltdown grand prize winner away on the smelting trip of a lifetime, and maybe a trip to the casino (shower optional).

Winner will receive travel to Wisconsin, an exciting evening of smelting with Brian, accomodations, dinner, $5 cash for gambling in the casino, and a treasure trove of smelt-related items.

"If it sounds funny, smells bad -- do it," Jerry in West Virginia.
