Town of the Week
Bowling Green, Ohio
Head over to Bowling Green, Ohio; just Problem listening to Real Audio? Get Help! It was a postal carrier from Bowling Green, Kentucky who named our town after his own when he settled in northwest Ohio in the 1840s. His office was in a tavern at Hannon's Corners, about 25 miles south of Toledo. The discovery of oil meant a boom for Bowling Green, and you can still see the prosperity in the Town's elegantly styled homes downtown.
Bowling Green is a town of 30,000, home of Bowling Green State University and the seat of Wood County. The County courthouse is a majestic Romanesque style building, featuring sculpture, stained glass, and a clock tower. The Town's most unique landmark is a 45-foot windmill built by a Dutch craftsperson to disguise an unsightly smokestack. Today, the windmill is rented as apartments. The old county infirmary is now the Town's historical museum. It's off I-75, the home of the high school Bobcats, and our Town of the Week, Bowling Green, Ohio.
