Problem listening to Real Audio? Get Help! Like a bubbling brook, bluegrass music rings out twice each year on a rustic stage located deep within the Ouachita National Forest. The Turkey Track Pasture Pickin' Bluegrass Festival provides the setting for one of the largest outdoor festivals in the southern United States. Turkey Track is located 10 miles east of this week's town of Waldron, Arkansas. The next festival is the weekend of October 11th. Located on a valley floor, Waldron was founded 162 years ago, and became a city in 1875. As it is the only city in Scott County, it also serves as County Seat. Eighty-two percent of the town's 600 thousand acres is timbered. The rest is agricultural, mainly livestock and poultry for processing by Tyson Foods.
The largest dehydrator in the world is located in Waldron, drying pigs' ears for doggie treats. The Ouachita National Forest offers great camping and recreational facilities, and over 300 thousand acres of hunting area. Waldron has one of the oldest theatres in Arkansas, the Scott Theatre. Blythe's Museum houses a collection of Indian artifacts and items from the city's past. It's a town of 32 hundred people who consider their home to be heaven, the home of the Bulldogs and the Lady Dogs, and our Town of the Week, Waldron, Arkansas.
