courthouse There's a larger than life statue of 98-year-old Strom Thurmond in the Courthouse Square of his native Edgefield, South Carolina. He is the best known and only living governor of the 10 governors provided by Edgefield County through South Carolina's history.

The Courthouse Square in Edgefield is the site of the Ten Governors Festival each November. The town of Edgefield is 215 years old, and the entire community is listed in the national register of historic places. The town's Tompkins Library is a magnet for genealogists, and along with the Visitor's Center is located on the Courthouse Square.

pottery Edgefield's numerous antebellum homes, complete with columns, fanlights and ancient trees, line Buncombe Street along Highway 25. Among the homes open for tour are Oakley Park and Magnolia Dale. The town boasts the old Edgefield pottery, where a resident potter still makes alkaline-glazed stoneware in the old Edgefield pottery tradition. The National Wild Turkey Federation's Visitor Center and Museum is located on the South side of town.

Edgefield and its 2,600 residents are located on the state's National Heritage Corridor, and it's our Town of the Week, Edgefield, South Carolina.
