Come with us to Park Falls; just
listen in.
Park Falls, Wisconsin
May 15, 1999
One of Northern Wisconsin's premier whitewater canoe routes is
the Flambeau River, located about 50 miles south of Lake
Superior. At the north fork of the Flambeau, at what was then
Muskellunge Falls, the rushing waters powered the first band-saw
mill in northern Wisconsin. In its lifetime, this Fraser Paper
Company mill cut over 100 million feet of pine. The area around
the mill became such a parklike setting, the town that grew up
here eventually was named Park Falls.
The paper industry continues to be the largest employer in the Park Falls area,
along with tourism and local recreation. With a population of
3,100, Park Falls is the largest town in Price County. It's
surrounded by over 900 thousand acres of federal, state, and
county forest. Park Falls calls itself the "Ruffed Grouse
Capitol of the World," but its wildlife includes many other
species of birds and animals.
You'll find uncrowded waterways for boating on the North and South Forks of the Flambeau River; on Butternut Lake; and the famous Turtle Flambeau Flowage,
Wisconsin's own Boundary Waters experience. One of the state's
longest running festivals, the 47th annual Flambeau Rama, will be
held in Park Falls July 29th through August 1st. The Sunday
afternoon parade is considered the finest community parade in
northern Wisconsin. It's your gateway for a northwoods
adventure, and our Town of the Week, Park Falls, Wisconsin.
