It is very comforting to know that I did not have a
mid life crises. Many thanks to the researchers that
helped me through it by refusing to acknowledge it.
Now I feel really bad. I see that I am one of only a
hand full of men that have a mid-life crises. That
must mean I really am a loser if no-one else has these
feelings.

The German word for mid-life crisis is very evocative:
"Torschlusspanik" - literally "the panic of closing doors".

My advice to anyone having what they think is a MLC
is to 1) get the right spouse; 2) buy a brightly
colored convertible sportscar and 3) drink straight
liquor at 6 pm every night.

As a psychologist, my view is that the mid-life thing
is a reflection of a developmental glitch--i.e., being
too scared to have intimacy and refusing to become
less self-centered. Because I was eclipsed by the
developmental glitch of the man I was married to, I
never was afforded an opportunity to have the self-
serving version of this "crisis" experience.

"Midlife crisis is the condition of horniness,
dissatisfaction, and greed that exists throughout life,
but which is assigned a name during one's 30s and 40s. "

1) Don't take a mistress and/or leave your wife
2) Don't start racing sailboats or go out and buy a
Harley
3) Don't quit your job, intent on finding something
that may not bring in the same money, but that has
"meaning"
4) Don't stop having sit down dinner parties

So you see, if we do not know exactly how long life is,
how do we know when mid-life is in order to have a
crisis?
When we find out, it is too late to go back and have
one.
Ergo:There can be no mid-life crisis since no one
really knows when mid-life really is.

Yeah, right, Michael, there is no mid-life crisis,
singular. There are several crises that occur over time
unbeknownst to the hapless victim just trying to cope
and keep up with reasonable saneness the stress of
simple daily living.
