Michael Interviewed... Cheryl Taylor Bennett South Bend is located on the south bend of a north-flowing river where Native Americans lived, and LaSalle and the French explorers later made a trade route between the lakes and rivers of the upper Midwest. Immigrants from Poland, Belgium, Germany, and Italy settled in the area and could hardly wait until the mid-1940s when the All American Girls Baseball League played in South Bend. Kind of a quick history of the area, but Cheryl Taylor Bennett can fill in the details.
